Noah Xifr

Noah Xifr aka Bird has painted empowering art all his life. "I explore concepts like achieving psychological wellbeing, strength, love, community building, and striving for environmental justice."

Born in Madrid, Spain and growing up in the Bronx, NY, this 3rd generation artist started drawing as a child inspired by the city, birds he raised, surreal painters, science fiction, graffiti and comic books. In 5th grade he won a NY Transit Museum poster design contest and went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Fine Art from the Cooper Union School of Art, with a major in Painting and Printmaking. His creative journey has brought him to found the Symbolic Realism arts movement, a home for contemporary surreal conceptual artists.

Noah’s art commissions include public art, graphic novels, design, printmaking and photography. As a street artist his tag is Bird and he has painted murals nationally including at Welling Court and 5Pointz in Queens, NY. He is working on a series of 22 murals of the major arcana for a deck of tarot cards representing the broadest biodiversity of endangered bird species titled the Bird War Tarot. His oldest surviving public mural “Like a Phoenix We Rise” (1997) in Manhattan was featured in the documentary “Muralist Noah Xifr” on WMNN. In 2012 he crowdfunded his first self-published graphic novel series / artist book, the psychological thriller PAIN FULL NESS 1 VOICE BOXED (PAIN1) on Kickstarter.

 

He has taught art to all ages, and is a marketing consultant with an MBA. He is an Artist-in-Residence at Chashama with an art studio in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, NY. His artwork is in private collections in the United States, Spain and Israel, and he has exhibited internationally at galleries and art fairs.
